World Languages & Multilingual Learner Education

Spanish Grades 5 & 6 continues to foster interest in and understanding of World languages and cultures while engaging students of diverse language backgrounds. Two beautifully designed, thematic and interdisciplinary units guide students through an exploration of the world’s animals, habitats and cultures. These units of study meet the New Jersey World Language Student Learning Standard 7.1 as students progress towards ACTFL novice-mid proficiency.

Spanish Grade 5: Unit 1. The Tropical Rainforest. This 10-week-cycle course includes naming our globe’s continents, oceans, climate conditions, animals and habitats. Discussion focuses on the unique features, animals and products of the tropical rainforest and the ancient Mayan and Aztec civilizations. Instruction is offered for one(1) 10-week cycle course in classes that meet every other day for 56 minutes. |

Spanish Grade 6: Unit 2. The Great Mayan Barrier Reef. This 7-week-cycle course reinforces previously learned content while introducing naming and describing oceanic habitats and its wildlife. Students explore the unique elements of the Caribbean Sea and the Great MesoAmerican Barrier Reef a.k.a. The Great Mayan Reef. Instruction is offered for one(1) 17-day cycle, in classes that meet every other day for 56 minutes. |
